Production OVERVIEW.
SYNOPSIS.
In the remote northern town of Daymyr, where the midnight sun creates an eternal golden hour, life revolves around Zeit—a magnificent clock tower built from the mythical lance of an ancient divine battle. When Zeit suddenly stops during the town's sacred midsummer festival, chaos erupts as no one knows when to eat, sleep, or gather without their singular guide through time.
The town's annual play tells Zeit's origin story—how the sun god Sonne's tyranny led to his sister Mond's death, and how her essence became the heart of the clock itself. The breakdown reveals each character's unique relationship with time. The Mayor, facing a terminal diagnosis, sees Zeit's stoppage as miraculous salvation from death and desperately schemes to prevent any repairs. Frau, the perfectionist theater director haunted by memories of failed timing, clings to her metronome, believing art impossible without mechanical precision. Magnus, a struggling entrepreneur, transforms crisis into opportunity, selling "time remedies" and "premium darkness" to his panicked neighbors.
Young actress Merid discovers that Zeit responds to authentic presence with mysterious chimes. During rehearsals, she notices the clock stirring when performers embody genuine emotion, while remaining silent during mechanical recitation. The Aurora Borealis, unseen since Zeit's creation, begins flickering faintly during these moments of true connection—cosmic light trying to break through.
Eino, the town's inventor-timekeeper who trusts only what he can measure, ventures into the forest seeking Flora, who abandoned mechanical time years ago. When his careful calculations fail him utterly, he's forced to navigate by instinct rather than numbers. Flora teaches him that Zeit isn't broken—it's waiting for the town to remember the natural rhythms they've forgotten. She sends him back with only a flower petal and cryptic wisdom.
As the festival performance approaches, the Mayor's embodiment of Sonne grows increasingly powerful and disturbing. His authentic presence awakens not just Zeit but something ancient within the myth itself—the boundary between actor and archetype beginning to dissolve. When he takes the stage, it becomes unclear where the Mayor ends and the sun god begins, setting in motion a climactic performance that will force the entire town to choose between the safety of mechanical time and the terrifying beauty of living in true presence.
This Nordic fable weaves mythology and humanity to explore a profound question: Can a community that has forgotten how to exist without constant measurement rediscover that real time lives not in clock towers but in the luminous threads of genuine connection—the eternal now that exists between one heartbeat and the next?

TONE REFERENCES.
Big Fish (Tim Burton, 2003) Like Big Fish's seamless flow between mythic storytelling and lived experience, Zeit weaves ancient fable into present reality through magical realism. Both films reveal that the most profound truths emerge not through literal fact but through stories that capture the deeper emotional authenticity of how we connect across time.
The Truman Show (Peter Weir, 1998) Like Truman's perfectly orchestrated world, the island town lives in mechanical harmony under Zeit's chimes. But when the clock stops, residents must confront an unsettling question: have they been truly living, or merely keeping time? Zeit explores what happens when artificial rhythm gives way to authentic presence.
